Transmute Virtual Exhibition, 2000, Collborative project with Ben Chang, directed by Joshua Decter

This collaborative project was originated and directed by the curator, Joshua Decter and the Museum of Contemporary Art. My partner, Ben Chang, and I worked with him and their design team to come up with the technical and workable creative design. After the design process I worked on the interface design for the two different components (Virtual Curator and Virtual Artist), the design layout and artwork preparation. For this I used Photoshop and Flash.

Virtual Curator: This program allowed the museum visitor to move around the gallery in 3D using VRML. While there the viewer would select an artwork to place within the gallery. Once a piece was selected an informational screen would come up on the second screen. The screen had basic information about the artwork, but also an animated poem and a hypertext link to another artist.

Virtual Artist: This section allowed the viewer to select from a pool of local artists and then create a collage based on an artwork by John Baldessari.

The project was designed for Kiosks in the museum, but we also created a version for the web (although the program was pretty large and there were some compatibility issues with VRML at the time).
