Stars of the Lid is a microcosmic universe
made up of particles, reflections and glittering lights. The focal
point of this film shifts between subatomic particles to the grandeur
of the sparkling lights of a city. Stars of the Lid attempts to
place the audience in a fluid space sculpted by light and existing
within an absence of scale.
The sound design for Stars of the Lid is created
from recorded and then manipulated early analog keyboards, and
sampled electronic sounds from the 70's and 80's. These sounds
attempt to sonically convey the formation and dissolution of space.
From tight tin-like punches to dense hums, these sonic vibrations
bring into focus the environmental sounds of the city.
