Portal, 1999
3D animation/ video, 3 projectors,
15' x15' installation, sound piece

Portal was an artic garden installation. It was made from white styrofoam which served as a backdrop for blue lights and video projection. Three projectors were embedded within sculptural forms while an artic sound scape permeated the small room. Fans hanging from the ceiling blew small forms suspended with invisible string. The projection was of two different looping videos. These were created using both 3D animation (SoftImage) and video footage of synthetic city spaces and abstract cellular shapes. The video objects mirrored the iconic city and cellular shapes from the 3D animation. The cheap installation materials were meant to address the airless or virtual space carved and created by 3D virtual space.
