Hub, 2000
40' x 17', paint, glass, plastic, wood, fabric, and video with website
(created in Flash and HTML)
Hub was a project that consisted of both a window installation and a website.
The installation took place in six different sections of windows made
to represent both macrocosmic and microcosmic environments. The materials
included fabric, found and recycled glass and plastics, a monitor and
wires. Sections ranged from large scale fabric sculptures to miniature
city environments. For the web project I photographed these environments
and also the environment surrounding the installation and animated the
images using Flash.
The piece was about windows, surfaces, scale and framing. There is also
a dialogue between real objects and shapes and those created in the computer.
These objects refer to each other resulting in a real environment based
upon unreal, imagined things.
